How Siding Helps With Noise Reduction

Coming home from work or school and getting to enjoy some peace gives you the chance to unwind, which is one of the best things about it. However, if you live in a bustling city or have a home next to a road, you will have to deal with a variety of noises, including those made by passing cars, rowdy neighbors and more. Today, we talk about how the right siding can help make your home quieter.

Siding and Insulation

Insulation is used in the framing of exterior walls. Fiberglass blankets, concrete or rigid foam boards, recycled paper, expanding foam and other materials can be installed. Insulation can absorb vibrations, including sound, even though its primary purpose is to reduce thermal transfer and keep indoor living spaces comfortable by maintaining stable temperatures. A significant variation in noise reduction levels between interior and outdoor environments can be produced by proper insulation.

How Can Siding Replacement Help Reduce Noise?

The level of noise insulation varies between siding systems. To avoid being bothered by loud noises inside your house, you probably want a better siding material. Because some siding does offer noise-reducing qualities, choosing the right kind will help in this case. The style and thickness of the siding will determine how effective it is at reducing noise. Certain materials work better as noise dampeners for sounds that fall within a given frequency range.

Vinyl siding is the most effective noise-dampening material for noises below 4,000 hertz (Hz). Siding made of stone or other organic materials is more effective than other materials at reducing noise at frequencies above 4,000 Hz.

The amount of sound that can be muffled depends on many factors, including the siding’s thickness and weight in addition to its composition. It has been established that heavier, thicker siding materials effectively absorb sound.

Other Ways to Improve Noise Reduction

To improve your home’s soundproofing, you may think about tackling other improvements. Installing triple-pane windows, strong doors and even planting trees or any other form of greenery in your yard can minimize sound transmission by as much as 40%.
